Sam Zell – Billionaire investor, Equity Residential Chairman Sam Zell clearly believes home ownership is not for everyone. He famously remarked during the subprime mortgage crisis, “We need to clean out all those people who never should have bought in the first place and not give them sympathy.”

  1. I heard three stories in the past two weeks about water damage to personal property – two at 10 Emerson Place, one at One Emerson Place.

  4. I received a complaint this week from an Equity residential tenant who told me about exorbitant rent increases. Since the start of the Massachusetts Equity Residential class action lawsuit, rent increases are what I’ve heard most about in connection with Equity Residential. The second thing I’ve heard most about is rude staff arguing with former tenants over security deposits.

I currently rent in glen meadow apartment in franklin, MA, they are ripping me off. They asked me to move out of the apartment, then
when I took new apartment she told she will transfer the old security deposit of old apartment to new apartment, once we moved in to new apartment , the apatment is filthy and rusty , and they charged me $900 for carpet for old apartment now, they are abusing me. There was normal dirt on the carpet, I have a person with rust phobia in my family and they are not allowing me to get out of lease. They also charged $300 transfer fees.

Equity residential violated every basic human right I have and then blamed me. Run for your sanity!!

I currently live in 225 Walden St in Cambridge, and we have had numerous hot water outages. I just started another year of lease beginning April 2013. The prior year, 5% of days there was no hot water. In the past 25 days, there have been 4 days without hot water. An inspector has received numerous calls about them, and he has cited the company effective today April 25, 2013. Apparently they keep running out of oil to heat the water with, and he had previously forced them to get more storage tanks, and they are still neglecting to provide enough fuel to provide hot water. The only acknowledgement from the property manager is that there are “maintenance issues that they are working to fix”. I am currently evaluating available legal options to see what I can do.

My apartment complex was owned by Equity Residential for several years, and these people are complete and total nightmares.

I am a 20 year resident of Audubon Village Apartments, Tampa, FL.

This is the rudest, greediest, most vile organization I have ever dealt with in my life.

I wish you all the best in whatever you can do for the consumers who still have to put up with them.
